UK Work Requirements

We have produced our FREE Guide to living and working in the UK. This guide will provide you with all you need to know about working for Strand, what you will need to work in the UK  from an immigration and NMC perspective, things to check before you leave home, useful contacts and how to register with Strand.

Many of our office staff have come from overseas themselves, and have a wealth of personal experience to draw upon - they are more than happy to help should you have any questions or queries after reading this information.

As an overview, to work for Strand in the UK either as a nurse or a carer, you will need the following:

• All agency workers, including qualified nurses, healthcare assistants (HCAs), nursing assistants (NAs) & carers
• UK/ EU passport or visa (if applicable). 
• Certified copy of your police clearance (taken within the last three months of entering the UK)
• Proof of immunity for the following: Hepatitis B (including Titre levels), Rubella, Varicella (Chickenpox), Polio, Tetanus, TB, and Diphtheria. 
• Manual Handling (Moving and Handling) certificate dated within the last 12 months (we can help with updates)
• Professional references covering three years to the present (Please ask for details of the criteria required for referees)
• GP declaration of clear chest X-ray (developing countries only)

Qualified Nurses Only

• NMC registration, or certificate of qualification, which may entitle you to work as an ATA (Auxiliary Trained Abroad) until registration, is granted. Please note Strand does not offer work permits, supervised placements or adaptation courses
• CPR certificate dated within the last 12 months (we can help with updates). 
• Proof of Indemnity Insurance
• Certificates of any specialist training
